The Vicious, Gruesome Gladiators and the Circle of Death

Room 8 wrote this piece of writing together. It was based around a picture of two gladiators fighting. The learning intention was to use new descriptive words and similes. After the shared writing experience, children then created their own individual, descriptive writing.

I was nervous, I was about to fight. I was a gladiator. It was scary when I first looked at my opponent, he looked vicious with his weapons and his armour. The warrior looked like a crocodile or grizzly bear ready to pounce on its prey.
My heart was pounding like a beating drum,my hands were shaking with fear. I was in combat, fighting for my life. I had a three pointed spear and a large fishing net as my weapons.
We were fighting in the Collosseum, the colourful, noisy crowd were going wild. They were like frenzied baboons waiting for blood to spill.
As I began to move the sharp sword was stabbed into my leg from the other gladiator. I started to collapse on the hard, sandy ground. The pain in my leg was very nasty. Dust blew over my body as I lay there bleeding. I was risking my life, I was not going to give up.
The other gladiator came in for the kill. I lay with my spear in my right hand. Blood oozed out of my leg, I had to act quickly.
As he approached I grabbed the net and swung it at his feet. He tripped and lost his balance. The smirky grin on his face disappeared. With a very fast motion I pushed the weapon deep into his side, like a nail into wood.
He fell and died. I came to my feet slowly with the sound of the crowd cheering.
